The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded a new equipment enhancement grant (£485,000) to further fund the National Dark Fibre Facility (NDFF) from the beginning of 2023. Together with the initial equipment enhancement funding received in November 2020, the total equipment enhancement grant is worth £922,481.

With the aid of this equipment grant, new capabilities such as L-Band operation, optical links extension, reconfigurable optical networks can be built to better support UK researchers in developing new communication technologies for the future networks.

In addition, new grant will contribute to the training of students and researchers through dedicated research and technician support.
